Re: Christmas Monday Club –

John,

I noticed that you had chosen a ‘Dietary Request’ (Gluten Free) for the main course. There are already 2 items on the menu that are gluten free (GF) : –

Slow braised beef served with mushrooms, smoked bacon, baby onions & red wine, wholegrain mustard mash (GF).

Steamed fillet of cod & prawns served with crushed new potatoes and chive butter sauce (GF)

Are these choices not suitable?

Re: Putting Final –

Hi Garry I’m really sorry that you had to pull out of the putting Final! I do hope your wife is okay! Thank you for letting Terry know!

The final went well and was enjoyed by all. Richard Hone came out the winner! Martin Crookes – Terry Crofts – Beresford Bell and Malc Voce finished in that order making you 6th! So you do receive a prize. I will sort that with you when I return from holiday in Italy in 2 weeks!

Well done on your performance overall and I hope you found the extra focus on your putter helpful to your game.

Look forward to catching up with you on my return!

Best wishes! David

Re: Entry to Seniors Winter Pairs KO –

Hi Prab,

I see that you have registered to enter the Seniors Winter Pairs KO competition.

Unfortunately this is an Honours Board competition and the entry criteria is that you need to have played in at least 5 qualifier competitions in the past 12 months. Which, according to your handicap records you have not.

I am sorry, but I have had to remove your entry.

If you have any questions regarding this, or any other Seniors related subject, please contact me either by email or message me (Text or WhatsApp is fine).

Re: Putting Final –

PUTTING FINAL 2024 – FINALIST INFORMATION
Congratulations on winning through to the Putting Final!
Wednesday 18th 5pm start (practice from 4pm)

You will be competing on a knock out basis on the putting green. Each player should have with him a ‘caddie’ to mark their score and advise as appropriate. You will use your own ball and putter.
The format will be a knockout! After each of 4 rounds the player in last place will be eliminated. Round 5 will see the final 2 players going head-to-head on a match play basis. If after 6 holes the scores are tied. Play will continue around the course again on a ‘sudden death’ basis until a winner emerges.
Each player will receive a prize and the winner crowned Champion Putter of the Year winning the Trophy.
LAYOUT
NB Players-caddies and Refs will assemble on the carpark side of the green.
There will be course A and course B (Reverse direction) The route from hole to hole will ensure a variation in length of putts and green slopes experienced. 2 putts each round will begin on the fringe of the green.
Start points will be marked by a numbered disc + a small plastic disc ball marker beside, to show the exact position of where the ball should be placed. Each flag will be numbered 1-6
After each round these markers will be re-positioned.
TIMINGS
The final is due to start at 5pm. The green will be closed to all members at 4pm. Finalists may practice until 4.30 at which point no further practice will be allowed. (You will need to provide your own balls for this).
PLAY
Players will draw at the start of each round by choosing 1 of 6 playing cards.
Player 1 will begin at hole 1 and putt until the ball is in the hole. The caddie will record the score and they will move on to hole 2. After hole 2 is completed Player 2 will begin and so on until all players have started to play. After completing a round, the player will hand in the score card signed by himself and the caddie to the scorer.
Round 2 will commence in the same way with the 5 remaining players but around course B,
once the markers have been repositioned. This, will be repeated for rounds 3 and 4.
NB If 2 or more players have an equal score there will be a putt off around 5 points of the central hole. From each point the player will get 1 putt only to put the ball into the hole. The winner(s) will progress to the next round.
After round 4 the 2 remaining players will putt-off in the final round, with a draw for who goes first. The referee will draw to determine which course A or B will be used. The 2 players will contest each hole side by side with the player furthest from the hole putting first each time. The winner of the first hole will go first on hole 2 (and so on).
If after 6 holes the scores are equal the players will repeat the process around the second course but on a ‘sudden death’ basis. If after a further 6 holes the scores are still equal, the winner will be decided by a ‘sudden death’ one long putt at one hole with the nearest putt being the winner.
GOOD LUCK!
Best wishes! David (thank you for participating in this new venture)

Wednesday 18th September 5pm

Please give up an hour of your evening and come and support the 6 finalists.

Witness high skill level, great green reading, flowing putts and iron resolve as they battle it out ‘play off’ style!

Re: Prize Winnings – Monday, 5th August 2024 –

To: Prize Winners – Monday, 5th August 2024
From: Richard Hone

Your prize winnings to your levy card is now being processed and you should see this on your statement sometime over the next couple of days.

I have received several messages pointing out that the prize money had not been received, and initially I had assumed that there was a delay within the office due to staff holidays.

Embarrassingly, it now turns out that it was my error … I had not emailed the prize reports to the office. I normally do this at the same time that I generate the reports on the day of the competition. Something must have distracted me that day.

This should be a one off incident as I will improve my checking process.

Once again, many apologies for the delay and you will soon have your well earned prize money.

Re: NORWOOD TOMORROW –

NORWOOD AWAY UPDATE
Coffee only on arrival, two course meal to follow @ £17, nearest the pin sweep for a bottle of whisky is £1.
The drive to the club is being resurfaced tomorrow and entrance to the club is by the Halam Road entrance to Norwood Park.
Suggested route from Secretary
From Ramsdale, through Oxton to Southwell, as you near Southwell, there are a series of bends, there is a left turn, Cooks Lane. Take this turning, at T junction you will see an entrance directly opposite, take this and follow until you reach entrance to the car park after the 8th tee, second left.
For anyone coming through the centre of Southwell, take road to Halam and turn right through entrance to Norwood Hall. Follow this road until you reach a crossroad, house in front, and turn right, 8th tee! Car park is second left from there.

Re: Seniors Club Championship Booking –

SENIORS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP – THURS, 13TH JUNE 2024 (First Round)

This is a message to the 39 members who have Registered/Paid for the Seniors Club Championship, and also to others that have booked into the First Round but not yet Registered/Paid their £3 Series Fee.

If you haven’t yet booked into the competition via Master Scoreboard please do so now.

Signing up for the Competition does not automatically book you a place on the first round … you still have to book a place via Master Scoreboard.

Currently 28 “Registered” members have booked into the first round on Thursday, 13th June. We also have 5 members that have booked into the competition, but have not yet paid their Series Entry Fee. This will be collected from them on the day or before.

Of the 40 currently bookable places there are just 8 places remaining. However, this is not an issue as there are some tee times held in reserve should they be needed. These start from 9:52am. Therefore, anyone trying to book a place who finds that all the currently bookable places are already taken MUST add themselves to the ONLINE RESERVE LIST (Master Scoreboard) so that they can be allocated a place from 9:52am onwards.

ORDER OF PLAY FOR SECOND ROUND
The Second Round will be played on Thurs, 20th June 2024.

Order of Play will be determined by the leaderboard positions from the First Round.

The leaders from the Seniors Gross, Seniors Nett, Veterans Gross and Veterans Nett categories will go out last.

Players with the highest Nett scores will go out first. The remaining players will go out in descending Nett order.

Any members not wishing to play the Second Round MUST let the organisers know on the day of the First Round BEFORE the draw for the Second Round which will be done after completion of the First Round competition.

Good luck to all players

Richard Hone
Seniors Competition Secretary

The cost will be £16 per person which includes:-

• One course lunch after the match

Re: Match selection –

Dear Steve, I am writing to you regarding your one remaining registration for the match against Springwater away in July.

I am in the difficult position of having to select from 25 players for a team liking to include only 12.
I am trying to achieve at least a 50% success rate in terms of matches registered for against matches actually played. Most players have registered between 10 and 20 so this becomes a very difficult juggling act.

With 9 matches left it would make your selection more likely if you were to put your name down for several more. If not I’m afraid I am going to find it difficult to justify your inclusion.

I apologise for this situation but too many of the opposition are restricting their teams to 12, creating tough choices amongst our 38 registered players.

Please seek me out at the Club if you wish to discuss this further.

Best regards, David Hawkins

Re: Seniors Competition Booking –

Hi Paul,

I am really sorry to see that you are obviously still having on-going health issues, and I sincerely hope that you will get them resolved through the treatment that you are receiving.

I am sure that you will appreciate that we also need to address how to manage the problem with you booking into competitions and then either withdrawing at a late stage, or on some occasions not turning up without giving any notice.

David Costin and I have previously discussed with you the expectation that you will notify us if you need to withdraw, and it is appreciated that most times you have done in so one way or another.

However, I suggest that we now need to take this expectation a little further, to both fit in with your health situation and to be fair to those members that are affected by your frequent withdrawals.

For future SINGLES competitions we will continue to accept you booking in as you have been doing, and if you have to withdraw at a late stage assume that you will continue to try and let us know.

However, for the PAIRS and TEAMS competitions I am now requesting that you do not book into these competitions in advance. This is to avoid the significant impact that it has on the other members booked into that slot when they suddenly end up as a team of just three players.

Instead of booking into the PAIRS and TEAMS competitions in advance, if on the morning of a PAIRS or TEAM game you decide that you wish to play then you can contact the organisers and ask if there is an available space. For the Monday Club this would usually be David Dandie and David Costin.

I hope that you will agree that this is a reasonable compromise to balance out your personal circumstances with the needs of other members.

I am happy to chat with you if you wish to discuss any aspect of this request, or if you have any suggestions for an alternative approach.

Kind regards

Richard

Thanks for attending the workshop. I hope you found it useful. Below are some warm up ideas gleaned from Phil Keyon himself.

PUTTING WARM UP (30 Mins)
5 Minutes
find a straight putt inside 8ft. Hit multiple putts;

Re: Match v Southwell Wednesday 10th April at Home –

Gentlemen, after consultation with Theresa and all interested parties including the Southwell Captain I am calling off Wednesday’s match. There is yet another storm coming through worsening the condition of the course and Southwell having committed to a team of 16 are now struggling with numbers.

We plan to rearrange this match for early September and I will let you know when you can sign up again for this match.

Apologies for the inconvenience!

Re: Winter Pairs Final –

Hi Marco, well done on the win!

I wondered if I could please ask you to pen a quick resume of the highlights of the match?

I ‘d like to give a very brief summary in my Captain’s Comments sheet. Rather than just congratulations but a flavour of the ‘battle’!

e.g. an astonishing drive by PF, a 30 foot putt from yourself with your trusty Odessey – a brilliant pin point approach from MD or another down the middle fairway finder from SD etc etc….. whatever

Many thanks! David

Re: Registering for matches –

You are receiving this email because you recently registered to play in this year’s series of inter-club matches.

Unfortunately we have had a small technical problem that required fixing. Please visit the web site and check your entries to ensure that all you registered for are present: –

‘Main Menu’
‘Matches’
‘Registered Players’
Choose your name from the drop down field and click ‘View’ to see your entries.

I am reasonably confident that all your original entries will be visible, but if not, unfortunately you will have to re-enter any missing matches.

Apologies for any inconvenience

Re: Winter Pairs Competition –

To: Mick Duffy, Marco Kefer, David Dandie & John Tyrrell

Re: Winter Pairs Competition

I wish to confirm that due to unresolved difficulties in arranging an alternative match date within an acceptable time frame the result of your match is that Mick Duffy & Marco Kefer go through on concession.

I appreciate that this is not an ideal situation but there has to be a limitation on the timescale for these matches and when members sign up for the Winter Pairs competition this is made clear in the rules.

As Competition Secretary it is my role to assess any situation like this and reach a decision on the appropriate outcome. I can assure you that I have done this to the best of my ability and have consulted with fellow committee members to help me reach a balanced decision.

Re: Xmas Monday Club – Event Fee –

Hi Gents,

This email has been sent to relevant members who are currently signed up for the Seniors Christmas Monday Club event on Monday, 18th December 2023.

The closing date for payment of the event fee was today, 4th December.

Unfortunately, with the cancellation of the Monday Club competition both last week and this week we have missed out on the opportunity to catch up with you to obtain your payment.

I will be obliged to confirm the numbers for the event with the centre within the next day or so.

What would be helpful would be a confirmation from you that you are still committed to playing in the event, and that you will pay your event fee either next Monday (preferable) or at least pay on the day of the event.

Alternatively, you could do a bank transfer to me (bank details below) and I will pay your fee on your behalf via the Seniors card system.

However, If you now wish to withdraw from the event then please advise me asap.

Re: Christmas Monday Club – Changes –

Christmas Monday Club – Changes

It has necessary to make a couple of changes to the original format of the Christmas Monday Club event being held on Monday, 18th December 2023.

The start time (Shotgun Start) will now be at 9:00am (originally 8:30am) and we will be playing 18 holes on the Par 3 Course (originally front 9 of both courses).

With these changes the presentation/meal will now commence at 1:00pm upstairs in the Course View restaurant. The event is anticipated to conclude at approximately 2:30pm.

These changes have been made following a review with the Centre management due to concerns raised regarding blocking both courses for 4 hours.

I trust that the amended arrangements are acceptable to all members who have booked into this event. If however you do have any issues with the changes then please could you contact me directly to discuss them.

Many thanks

Richard Hone
Seniors Competition Secretary

On the Seniors website click on COMPETITIONS -> Competitions Information. This will show you all the information and links to Christmas Monday Club options.

If you haven’t yet done so … please enter your menu choices before 4th Dec. Anyone who has not entered their choices by then will be allocated the default choice of Soup, Turkey & Xmas Pudding.

Also, the £25 event fee should be paid by 4th Dec please.

Re: Obituary –

We have been informed today that Paul Jefferson has passed away after a long illness. Paul was one of the founding members of Ramsdale when it first opened. He has been supportive of the Seniors Section for many years, and in 2012 was elected Captain. He will be sorely missed by everyone, and in particular his long time golfing partners; Bob Colson, Barrie Moore and Phil Rankin.

Our condolences to all his family. We will announce details of the funeral arrangements in due course.
