Match Reserves
We are fast approaching the match season with a healthy sign up to play with both established and new players.
For those of you who were unable to attend the AGM, I mentioned the use of a reserve list to help with match player availability and management. One of the problems the captain faces when selecting players for any particular match is ensuring a team is available and advised of their planned participation in a timely manner, however a difficulty that often arises is the number of players the opposing team can generate and confirm, which is out of our control.
Unfortunately it is not uncommon to initially agree on a 16 player match and ultimately the opposing team changes that to a reduced number player team with only a weeks notice. For this years matches I plan to always initially offer a 16 player team and unless the opposing team confirms a lesser number at the outset, I will then select a 16 player team and communicate the team accordingly.
When you receive your invite to play in a match, take note that if you are designated in pairs 7 or 8, you maybe be stood down if the opposing team cannot field a full team. In essence pairs 7 and 8 are potentially
reserves until the opposing team confirms their final player numbers which is usually a week prior to the specific match date.
In addition please note I also committed to do my best to ensure every player will get at least one match selection within the first four match fixtures, obviously this is subject to individuals availability through that
time period.
We have a great season of 2025 matches to look forwards to and I will
do my utmost to ensure that all member will be included as much as posible.
