1. Minutes of the last meeting
The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as a true record.
2. Matters arising from the minutes
There were no matters arising which were not to be covered elsewhere in the agenda.
3. Finance
In the absence of Mike there was nothing to report.
4. Monday Club
4.1 Following the success of the recent Red Tee competition, Brian stated that another will be held in August.
4.2 Brian had looked into the possibility of running a seniors’ Charity Event on Spring Bank Holiday Monday and concluded that it is not viable. It was agreed that the Seniors’ Section concentrate on fully supporting the Main Club’s Charity Day.
4.3 David D reported that attendances had picked up on the last two Mondays due to slight improvements in the weather.
5. Competitions
5.1 The first three rounds of the Winter Memorial Cup had been completed with a reasonably good number of entrants.
5.2 The preliminary, first and second rounds of the winter pairs’ knockout had been completed on schedule.
5.3 David C gave an update on the progress of current and future competitions:
6. Prizes and trophies
6.1 It was agreed that a review of the suitability of existing trophies will be done at the next committee meeting.
7. Competition entry procedure
7.1 A lengthy discussion took place based on the paper presented by David C at the January committee meeting and a letter from a member received by the Seniors’ Captain relating to a round of the Winter Memorial Cup. The member had not signed in on the computer prior to completing his round and so had been deemed not to have entered the competition. Consequently his score does not count in the aggregating process. The committee agreed the following:
- To continue with signing in on the computer prior to round completion as a condition of entry to competitions to keep in line with the Main Club
- To return entry fees to players deemed not to have entered competitions through failure to sign on to the computer N.B. This does not apply to competitions run at Monday Clubs as all participants are required to pay the entry fee regardless of whether or not they wish to enter the competition
- David C to telephone the member and convey the outcome of the committee’s discussion
- Competition entry procedure to be raised at seniors’ A.G.M.
8. Rule amendment for Winter Pairs
8.1 David C raised some issues that required clarification in relation to use of substitutes when players drop out of a pair’s partnership, and the committee agreed the following:
- A substitute, approved by the committee, can be used for any round of the competition
- The substitute cannot have played in a previous round
- If a substitute is used, the original player can resume in a later round
- If a substitute plays in a final and wins, then both his and his partner’s name will appear on the honours board
- If a singleton wins the final, then his and his original partner’s name will appear on the honours board
9. Seniors’ AGM
9.1 The AGM agenda was approved.
9.2 Two additional proposals are to be included on the agenda, making four in total.
9.3 Two completed committee member nomination forms had been received to-date.
9.4 Steve to produce 25 copies of each AGM document for distribution on the day.
10. Any other business
There was no other business.
